PLAINVIEW, TX — While alumni return to remember their college days, prospective students can begin imagining their own during Pioneer Preview on Friday, Oct. 23, at Wayland Baptist University.
Held during Wayland’s Homecoming celebration, the free event invites high school juniors and seniors and their families to explore the Plainview campus, meet faculty and current students, and experience the Pioneer community. Check-in and breakfast begin at 9 a.m.
“Homecoming is a wonderful time to discover Wayland because students get to experience the excitement of campus while seeing the connections that bring our alumni back,” said Holli Wauson, Director of Undergraduate Admission. “We want them to meet people, ask questions, have fun, and begin picturing themselves as part of the Pioneer family.”
The day combines college exploration with opportunities to experience Wayland’s academic, spiritual, and student life. Following breakfast, participants will gather for worship and a welcome before campus tours and a separate parent tour and session.
Pioneer Games and lunch follow, with an afternoon showcase featuring academic programs and student organizations. Students and families can explore majors, learn about scholarships and financial aid, and connect with representatives of student support services. Residence hall tours round out the main program, which concludes at 2:30 p.m.
“Choosing a college involves a lot of questions, and Pioneer Preview gives students and parents a chance to have those conversations in person,” Wauson said. “Whether students know exactly what they want to study or are still exploring, we want to help them see the possibilities.”
The experience can continue beyond the daytime program. Music auditions start at 2:30. Additional opportunities include a free dinner in the cafeteria at 6 p.m., a volleyball game at 7 p.m., and a choir concert at 8 p.m.
Families extending their visit into Saturday, Oct. 24, can also enjoy the Homecoming football game, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. Tailgating and lunch precede the game.
“This year, students can come for a campus visit and make a Homecoming weekend of it,” Wauson said. “It’s an opportunity to explore their future while enjoying the traditions and school spirit that help make Wayland special.”
