Doctor of Strategic Leadership-Athletic Administration

Overview

Most athletic directors were never trained to be one. Now you can. The Doctor of Strategic Leadership in Athletic Administration (DSL-AA), which emphasizes communication, leadership, compliance, fundraising, facilities management and ethics - all from a Christian perspective. This concentration is designed for coaches and district leaders who are seeking to advance their career through the athletic program.

Wayland Baptist University’s Athletic Administration concentration combines doctoral leadership preparation, Christ-centered leadership principles, and National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) aligned development to prepare leaders who do more than supervise athletics; they build programs that endure.

Program Focus and Differentiation

The DSL-AA will be offered as a 100% online degree consisting of 54 credit hours of coursework that can be completed in as few as 2 years by taking advantage of our five convenient 8-week sessions. A more traditional 4-year track is also available.

This concentration prepares leaders for the operational and human aspects of athletics administration, addressing the lack of formal governance training in coaching and college athletics. It benefits current athletic directors, aspiring principals, district leaders, transitioning coaches, and education professionals interested in how athletics relate to leadership, student growth, culture, and accountability.

Students in the DSL-AA program will receive specialized training in the following:

  • Title IX and Compliance
  • Facilities and Event Management  (K-12 or Higher Education)
  • Strategic Finance and Fundraising
  • Athletic Leadership and Ethics

Our program will bring out the visionary and inner leader in you! The DSL-AA will focus on the practical application of leadership theory and knowledge grounded in Christian principles in a diverse and global professional world.

At Wayland, athletic leadership extends beyond supervision. Students develop the strategic capacity to shape culture, guide policy, strengthen organizations, and build athletic programs designed for long-term impact.
