By Phillip L Hamilton

PLAINVIEW, TX — Wayland Baptist University graduates Rodney and Sarah Wallace return to the Plainview campus as featured speakers at for Homecoming Chapel at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Harral Memorial Auditorium.

The husband-and-wife educators are a part of the university’s fall Homecoming celebration, which runs Oct. 18-24.

“Rodney and Sarah represent the lasting influence of a Wayland education through their service to students and families,” said Jeffrey Vera, Director of Alumni Relations and Career Services. “We are pleased to welcome them home and give our students and alumni an opportunity to hear from two graduates who have invested so much in this community.”

Rodney earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayland in 1996 and a Master of Education degree in 2014. Sarah earned a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree in 1999 and a Master of Education degree in 2019.

Plainview Independent School District appointed Rodney as Director of Schools Leadership in April 2026, recognizing three decades of service to the district. Sarah also serves the Plainview school district as an elementary principal.

Rodney’s Wayland connections extend to Pioneer athletics. An eight-time NAIA All-American in track and field, he was a member of the university’s 2014 Athletics Hall of Honor class. His events included the decathlon, pentathlon, relays, and the 600-yard run.

Their careers in education provide a connection between the university’s alumni and current students preparing for lives of service.

“Homecoming Chapel brings generations of Pioneers together around the faith and mission at the heart of our university,” Vera said. “The Wallaces’ example reminds us that the impact of Wayland continues through the people our graduates serve every day.”

The service also will recognize honor class alumni and introduce Homecoming king and queen candidates. Wayland’s praise team will lead worship.
