PLAINVIEW, TX — Wayland Baptist University has selected Dr. Kyle D. Edgington as the 2026 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year for the university’s Lubbock campus.
He will be recognized during Lubbock campus graduation exercises, which are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock. The church is located at 3801 S. Loop 289.
Edgington serves as senior vice president and chief development officer for Cook Children’s Health Foundation in Fort Worth, part of one of the largest pediatric health care systems in the Southwest. Throughout his career, he has combined leadership in higher education, philanthropy and service.
The honoree earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Wayland. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and a PhD in public affairs from The University of Texas at Dallas.
“Kyle exemplifies the values Wayland seeks to instill in its students and alumni,” said Jeffrey Vera, Director of Alumni Relations and Career Services. “His leadership, professional accomplishments, and commitment to serving others reflect the very best of the Wayland spirit.”
Before joining Cook Children’s, Edgington spent 16 years at The University of Texas at Dallas, where he served in several leadership roles, including vice president for development and alumni relations. He helped secure several transformational gifts during his tenure. Prior to his work at UT Dallas, Edgington served in fundraising leadership roles at Texas Tech University.
Vera said Edgington’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to education and helping institutions expand their impact.
“Kyle has helped transform lives through his work in higher education and health care philanthropy,” Vera said. “We are proud to recognize his accomplishments and grateful for the example he sets for current, future, and former Wayland students.”
